Event Mapping
One common question we receive when new customers integrate is around event mapping. Below is the advice that we always provide on this topic. Please note, all of our events have their own IDs that do not map to any events on any other platform or provider.
All of the events that we provide are mappable, as they follow conventions which allow you to put a system in place to automate mapping, rather than having to do this manually.
Many customers will use a fuzzy logic parser to map events, and although this isn’t something that we can directly help to develop, we can provide you with useful information about the usable metadata for our events - to help with creating this fuzzy logic parser.
As an example, the different identifiers for an event have been broken down below - followed by a response to a request made for a past MLS event:
Event ID (D.C. United v Houston Dynamo) - 74542 (These are unique and follow no logic per property, every time a match is made available through the Arena Streaming Console (https://console.livestreaming.imgarena.com) the event ID increases in increments equal to 1.)
Tournament ID (MLS 2018) - 1455 (This is for the MLS 2018 season only, this will change for each year)
Property ID (MLS) - 20 (This will never change)
Sport ID (Football) - 6 (This will never change)
Event Date:
The startDate is the scheduled start time of the event, according to the relevant federation/organisation/Order of Play. If an event is postponed or delayed, this will be updated in the feed. Delayed events are seen in tennis, as the times provided come directly from the tournament directors and must be considered as placeholders - they are regularly started both ahead of, and after the scheduled times. To clarify, each tennis match on a particular court will have it's own startDate, the gap in time seen between matches usually being approximately 2 hours (Though this is subject to change).
Participant:
The information regarding home and away teams is presented in our feed exactly as it is provided by the individual federations/organisations. I will break down the conventions followed by the different content types in our portfolio below - with Team A being the home participant, and Team B being the away participant:
Team A vs Team B:
Tennis
Badminton
Team A v Team B
Handball
Football
Snooker
Basketball
Volleyball
Team B (Away) @ Team A (Home)
NHL is the only Sport to follow this convention, with the home participant appearing on the opposite side, as Team B plays @ Team A.
The following are title examples within the responses from our Events API, in xml:
This information is available in two locations - the Arena Streaming Console itself, or our Events API (If the event is both licensed and booked)
Below is the URL for the MLS event, where you can see the order of relevant identification information.
(Sport followed by 6, properties followed by 20, tournament followed by 1455 and then the event ID itself - 74542):
Here is the response for the same event, from a request made to our events API:
You can see that the response from our API states the event first, followed by the tournament, property and then the sport - each with their own individual IDs. This provides you with all of the information that you require for licensed content that is available on the platform. The information from the response can also be accessed from our UI by navigating through our content to extract all of the necessary data to use for mapping purposes.
For further reference though, the below are all of the available sport IDs on our platform. You will only need to note down the ones that apply to your license agreement:
Test Sport - 3
Badminton - 4
Baseball - 27
Basketball - 8
Combat Sports - 17
Cricket - 16
ESports - 13
Football - 6
Golf - 9
Handball - 11
Ice Hockey - 2
Motor Racing - 22
Pool - 26
Retail Channel - 12
Rugby League - 15
Snooker - 14
Table Tennis - 24
Tennis - 5
Volleyball – 7
Each of these Sports will then have further identifiers for their properties (tournaments/variations of a sport). An example being Beach Soccer and Serie A both coming under the Football property), event titles within those, and dates and times for each event. It is this metadata that is used by other customers to automate the mapping of our events to their systems and websites.
